John P. Rufe

A partner of the law firm of Humphreys, McLaughlin & McAleer, John P. Rufe concentrates his practice in workers' compensation defense of employers, insurers, self-insureds and third party administrators in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Mr. Rufe also actively represents and defends his clients in insurance matters and civil litigation personal injury liability defense (premises, retail and motor vehicle torts).

Mr. Rufe is admitted to practice before the Maryland and the District of Columbia Bar. He is admitted to and a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

Mr. Rufe is a graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County, dual B.A. degrees. He received his Juris Doctor degree in 1988 from Temple University School of Law, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Rufe is a member of the District of Columbia and Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Maryland Bar and Washington County Bar Associations. He is a member of the Maryland Defense Counsel and its Workers' Compensation Committee. He is a member of the Litigation Section of the District of Columbia Bar. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the DC Association of Compensation Insurance Attorneys, and was the sole DC representative to the National Workers' Compensation Defense Network 2008-2015. He is also the originator and annual author of LexisNexis Practice Guide: District of Columbia Workers Compensation.

Mr. Rufe was honored to be selected to serve as Chairman of the Bar Association of Baltimore City Maryland Workers' Compensation Committee for five consecutive years.

Mr. Rufe defends his clients' interests at trial and on appeal at all levels in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Mr. Rufe has presented upon invitation before many continuing education seminars and conferences, as well as individually assisting and defending his clients' interests in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
