Kathryn S. McAleer

Principal

Ms. McAleer has been the managing attorney with Humphreys, McLaughlin & McAleer, (HMM) since its inception in 2006. She has been practicing law in Maryland and the District of Columbia for over 20 years.

Kathy received her B.A. in Political Science from Waynesburg College in Pennsylvania and her Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. Upon graduation, she served as an Assistant City Attorney in Rockford, Illinois, engaged in the prosecution of criminal cases.

From 1987 to 1990, she was a Trial Attorney for CNA Insurance Company, defending employers and insurers in workers' compensation cases as well as defending insurance carriers in personal injury claims, auto claims and premises liability. In 1990, Kathy became an associate with Dirska & Levin representing employers and insurers in workers' compensation cases in Maryland and the District of Columbia. She became an equity partner with Dirska & Levin in 1995 and remained in that position until 2003 when she became a partner with Herwig & Humphreys.

Kathy has appeared before the Circuit Courts in the State of Maryland in both judge and jury trials, as well as briefing and arguing before the Court of Special Appeals and the Court of Appeals in Maryland.

Additionally she has defended Workers' Compensation claims on behalf of employers and insurers in the District of Columbia.

Kathy is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association, Maryland Defense Counsel and the Maryland Self Insurers' and Employers' Compensation Association (MSIECA).

Kathy has given and participated in numerous legal seminars for private clients, MICPEL, and a number of other professional associations.
